How to Prepare for your Float Session

How to Prepare for your Float Session

Important Float Reminders

  • Cancel/ Reschedule before 12 Hours of Appointment

  • Person Floating MUST have an account and be the one listed in order to receive Waiver.

  •  Reschedule if you had any type of hair color/treatment within the past 7 days (or 30 days for vibrant hair colors such as blue, purple, red, green, etc.). Swim caps WILL NOT stop the hair from getting wet.  Hair color MUST NOT run or stain white towels when wet in order to float.

  •  Reschedule appointment if recently applied makeup, henna, spray/self-tanner where it is still easily washing off -all will stain our tanks & our towels.

  •  Remove oils, creams, or makeup from the body before arriving for your appointment.

  •  Do NOT bring ANY type of glass into the Float Room

We want to make sure you get the most out of your Floating Experience.

Please follow our guidance...

  • Arrive on time – We recommend arriving 20 MINUTES EARLY FOR YOUR FIRST SESSION for Float Orientation and 10 minutes early for all subsequent appointments. Allow yourself plenty of time to get here – it’s much harder to relax if you’ve been rushing. If you are late, your float session may need to be cut short to ensure the following appointments can start on time.

  • Make sure you are hydrated with plenty of water before & after your float session.

  • Eat a light meal and allow enough time for it to digest before your float session so that you don't have the distraction of stomach grumbles while floating.

  • Avoid stimulants such as caffeine and alcohol on the day of your session.  These will make it difficult for you to relax into the tank environment. – a coffee in the morning should be OK if you’re not floating until later in the day.

  • Do not shave or wax on the day of your float as the salt might irritate your skin if sensitive.

  • Please refrain from SMOKING shortly prior to arriving at The Salt Center. The smell is carried into The Float Room with you – which can be unpleasant for other customers.

  • Allow plenty of time for your float session – We recommend allowing 1.5 hours for a 60 minute float session as we want you to take the time to relax before heading back out into the hustle

  • Remember to bring a bag with a change of clothes, hairbrush, makeup, lotion, journal and other personal items to use after your float.  Swim caps are highly discouraged.  No need to bring a swimsuit- we encourage you to FLOAT NAKED. We provide a hairdryer, standard size silicone earplugs, towels, robes, shampoo, body wash, & conditioner.

  • Silence your phone before entering The Salt Center (no vibration and no ring). This is your time to escape all of that, so leave it off as long as you can.  It is also VERY distracting for other clients who are here to relax. DO NOT TAKE CALLS WHILE YOU ARE IN THE FLOAT ROOMS, LOUNGE, OR RECEPTION AREAS.

  • Be aware of how long you take to shower after your float.  Please consider that we may have another client waiting & we need to allow sufficient time for filtering, sanitation & cleaning.  If you feel you need more than 5 minutes to shower, please just advise us when you arrive & we can shorten your float time accordingly.

It is safe to fall asleep during your Float Session. 1 hour of sleep during a Float Session can equal around 5 hours of deep REM sleep!

During your session , we encourage you to float naked, because swimsuits can contain chlorine, dyes, and can be uncomfortable. Don’t worry — it’s a private float suite!

How your first session might go

Are you wondering how your Float Therapy session might go? If you are new to Sensory Deprivation, be prepared that it may take you a while to relax and become comfortable on your first float. On average, it takes a person up to their third float to really enjoy the experience, sink into relaxation, and even sometimes fall into a deep sleep. Here is what you can expect from your Float Therapy session.

  • Shower

Remove all jewelry and clothing and set aside on the bench. Shower in your private float room and use the shampoo and body wash. Do not use hair conditioner.

  • Chill in the Room

After your shower, head over to start your float.

  • Step In

Sit down into the float solution and close the lid. You can leave the lid open or cracked if you would like more time to get comfortable with the idea of floating. You are ready to then lay back and experience every joint in your body releasing from gravity. When ready, close your lid (if you have not done so) and turn off your light in the pod. You can always leave your light on if you would like.

  • The Drift Off

Music plays for the first 5 minutes to ease you in. The soft audio eventually drifts away as you drift away into bliss.

  • Expect Nothing

The experience of floating is often different for each person, so we can’t tell you what to exactly expect.

  • The Ending

Music returns to bring you out of your relaxed state. Slowly make your way to shower. This time you can use hair conditioner if you wish. Get dressed or stay in our robe for a bit to enjoy herbal tea in the lounge.
