Frequently Asked Questions

Float Therapy

  • Our Float Therapy pods are over 8ft long and over 5ft wide, it is much more spacious than it may appear at a glance. You control the lid, you may open and close it as you please, even float with the lid completely open! Many guests report feeling like they are in a vast open area without the use of sight.

  • While closing the lid helps block out sound and light, it is not airtight and there is plenty of ventilation. Our Float pods have spacious rear ventilation gaps to allow fresh air inside.

  • Each Floatation pod contains over 1,000lbs of medical-grade Epsom salt, which is both antiviral and antibacterial. The solution within the pods creates an environment in which no virus or bacterial organism can survive. Furthermore, each of our pods are equipped with a high-powered UV and Ozone filtration system that pushes all 200+ gallons of water through the filter 7 times in 15 minutes. The filtration system runs after each guest session and filters particles down to 1 micron in size! Additionally, following each guest’s exit from the suite, we use a hospital-grade hydrogen peroxide cleaner to sanitize all touch points. At The Salt Center: Float & Wellness Spa, we practice the Float Tank Association’s North American Float Tank Standards and follow best practices to ensure quality, sanitation, and safety.

The float water is heavily filtered through a Micron Filtration and Advanced Oxidation Process. Our system’s custom X-100 micron filter is able to filter particles from the water to 1 micron in size and is both NSF 50 and FDA compliant for drinking water (Class 1 Filtration). Standard competitor pool and spa filter cartridges only filter to 20-30 microns and require regular cleaning. This is the first ever NSF 50 filtration unit that uses 1-micron bag filters—exclusive to our Float Tanks.

The Advanced Oxidation Process occurs when germicidal UV light (UV-C) and ozone react to generate the production of hydroxyl radicals. This reaction is known as the Advanced Oxidation Process, or AOP. Hydroxyl radicals (•OH) are the most powerful oxidation agents available, quickly destroying bacteria, viruses, pathogens and other contaminants that occur in water. Hydroxyl radicals also destroy chlorine- and bromine-resistant microorganisms, such as Cryptosporidium Parvum, Giardia and E. coli.

  • Any shape and size can use our pod and will float with ease. There isn't a weight limit as to what the pod can hold because of the specific gravity of the water. A person's BMI would be considered as to how well they will float, or if they are denser, they may sink lower in the salt solution. Please let us know if you have additional questions.

  • No, we encourage all guests to float naked while you are alone in your private suite. Any clothing, hair ties, or swim caps will cause tension and become a distraction. With the removal of light, sound, and gravity, the mind tends to hyper fixate on these things. Swimsuits may contain chlorine or dyes which we do not want to introduce into the tank.

  • No, however you and a partner can book separate rooms for the same time.

  • It is highly recommended so that you don’t have to spend extra time rinsing out your ears after you float. You should consult your doctor first if you have a perforated eardrum, ear sensitives, and/or ear surgeries that could be exacerbated by salt water or earplugs.

  • No, all of our guests float with no effort even if you have no prior swimming experience. (unless of course you decide to lay face down in the water so don’t do that)

  • Yes, all of our equipment is on dedicated ground circuits and completely safe to use while it storms outside.

  • We allow the guest to decide what works for them. Some find benefit in floating as regularly as multiple times a week, while some prefer to come on a weekly or monthly basis, and some come more sporadically.

  • Younger guests under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a guardian in the Float Therapy room for the duration of the session.

It is important to note for some (not all) young girls who are at the age of puberty (12-18) your body is going through hormonal changes and these changes affect your pH balance which may cause a burning sensation due to the pH level in the pod.

  • You will need to take the same precautions as you would when attending a swimming pool. If you do not think you can remain in the pod for the duration of the session please find a time to reschedule where you can get the most out of your experience.

  • Motion sickness can occur not only during physical motion, but visual and virtual motion - all three of which can happen while floating in a float pod - especially due to variations in weightlessness and postural control of the head and neck muscles while floating effortlessly in a face up position. Using our Halo-pillow, which is inside the pod, can help to stabilize the head and to keep in a slightly flexed position, which also minimizes reactions to movement and sensation while floating. Further, outstretching the arms and stabilizing your body, with a focus on minimal and slow movements will also reduce wavelike motions in the pod that tend to be triggers. Keeping the pod lid cracked or entirely open will also ensure steady air flow.

  • It is advised to wait at least 30 days from your last treatment, including chemo pills, and doctors’ approval is required.

  • Floating is great for these types of skin conditions so long as you are not experiencing an active flare up at the time of your float. The magnesium rich solution in our float pods soothes the skin and prevents further breakouts and flare ups, however if your skin is raw/active the salinity will cause it to burn and be very uncomfortable, so it is best to wait till your condition is in a dormant period.

  • Our Float pods are over 8 ft long and over 5ft wide, plenty of space for our tallest guests.

IonCleanse Detox

  • It is 30 minutes as recommended by the manufacturer.

  • This varies from person to person, after your session the results of your water will allow the spa associate to better determine the frequency of Ion Cleanse.

  • No, the Ion Cleanse process is painless. The machine sends a subtle current through the water in order to loosen up toxins trapped in fatty tissues within the body; this current would feel like nothing more than a slight tingle in the feet.

  • After an Ion Cleanse it is important to stay hydrated and avoid caffeine/alcohol for at least 24 hours after the service. This service stimulates the body’s natural detox systems, as such you may find yourself having to use the restroom more often and sweating more easily. It should not cause diarrhea.
